Car Accidents & Your Options for Medical Care in the Event of an Injury

Updated: Sep 5, 2018

Unfortunately we all have been or know someone involved in a car accident. It can be a stressful and terrifying time for all parties involved. It also can be debilitating leaving you with injuries that could become chronic lifetime injuries if not treated.

Physical Therapy can be very effective in treating these injuries to help improve/eliminate these injuries/pain while also helping you return to your normal daily routine. Common injuries seen from motor vehicle accidents are: -whiplash injuries for the neck, back injuries which limit mobility and sometimes can affect nerves(leading to numbness/loss of sensation) .

How Does Physical Therapy Help?

Physical Therapy can help treat the conditioning/injuries listed above and many others as well. Your Physical Therapist will assess your injuries and develop a specific treatment plan to help you return to prior level of function.

Common Treatment Techniques"

Moist Heat- to help promote mm relaxation

Cold Packs- to help decrease pain and reduce inflammation

Manual Therapy- Massage to decrease spasms, or Traction to help reduce nerve symptoms

Ultrasound- A form of deep heat to help with increased muscle relaxation

Exercise- flexibility/strengthening exercises to return to prior level of function

Nobody wants to be involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident, but if you find yourself or a loved one involved in one you should consider treatment to avoid prolonged pain/suffering. Always consult your local Physical Therapist to assess the injuries and develop a treatment plan while allowing you to return to your previous level of function.
